Fish! Philosophy
The Fish philosophy was introduced to The Phoenix Center in 2002. The Fish philosophy focuses on four principles – choose your attitude, make someone’s day, be present and play. Strengthening trust, teamwork and engagement is so important in building staff culture. Practicing this philosophy helps TPC foster a work environment in which everyone chooses to bring energy, passion and a positive attitude to work. TPC has a committee of staff members called the Fishing Crew that plans events such as birthday breakfast, catch of the month, school spirit week, staff Halloween costume and decorating contests, and so much more. We make every effort to ensure that the school climate is healthy and happy.
For our students, the Hero program was established, which follows the same fish principles. Students are nominated by our staff members when they display the principles of the fish philosophy. The students who are chosen to receive the Hero award have a photo taken with the staff member who nominated them, and their family is invited to a celebration honoring their achievements. What a wonderful way to celebrate our students’ gifts!
